In southeastern colorado there are little towns where cowboy hats, spurs, and chaps don't turn a head. This area is dotted with cattle ranches, and characterized by a no-frill lifestyle where each year can be a battle and the flight for survial just got harder. Surrounded by these cowboys and their families is the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site. PCMS is a United States Army base of 235,896 acres and the Army would like to expand by another half a million acres. The problem is, landowners don't want to sell.

These are photographs I've taken of people on their land, which they fear will be lost if PCMS expands. This project is very important to me because my family owns JL Cattle Company in Branson, Colorado, thirty miles from PCMS. Our land is not for sale.
